This is a great opportunity to be seen Last but Not Least : A big THANKS to Ivan and Justin Querry for helping out a fellow Scouter not to mention a fellow Troop 29er. I was pulled off the road with a flat tire when Ivan and Justin happened by. They stopped and in no time we had the tire changed and I was on my way. This reminded me of what Scouting is all about – helping others! I have no doubt that they would have stopped regardless of who was broken down by the road - it just happened to be me. Thanks again fellows and thanks for setting the example for all of us to follow! – Rob Snyder September 2009 August 2009 Aug 3 Troop Meeting / Committee Meeting/Board of Review Aug 10 Troop Meeting / Troop Elections, 6:45PM Aug 16 Court of Honor / Family Picnic

Thanks to Ruth and again our apologies for the oversight. Troop Elections: The troop elections will be held at the August 10th meeting. If you need a leadership position for rank advancement, please be at this meeting. Troop Sweatshirts: Mr. Rougeux has a few extra Troop 29 sweatshirts. If interested see Joe. We will also be conducting the popcorn kickoff and dunk tank sign-ups. Please make every effort to be there. Summer Camp: Well the weather was better fit for a duck but the boys still had a good time. Besides, it just wouldn’t be a Troop 29 function without some rain. We had 23 boys attend summer camp with 83 merit badges earned. There are some partials the boys will be finishing up in the near future. Thanks to Don Shick, Keith Peterson, Rob Snyder, Dave Wissinger, Mark Swatsworth, Scott Barclay and Lee Glasser for leadership for the week. Also, thanks to Adam Peterson and Rob for providing fire wood. A special thanks to all that helped set up the campsite prior to the troop’s arrival. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, it was another successful and fun year at camp for Troop 29. Rickett’s Glen Campout: Just imagine – it rained on another Troop 29 campout. Well it only rained the trip out and for camp set up. The weather couldn’t been better for the hike on Saturday to see the incredible scenery the falls trails had to offer. I think that everyone who attended this outing will agree that we want to return to Rickett’s Glenn State Park again. Thanks to Dave Smith and Rob for organizing this outing. A big thanks go out to Mike and Justin for handling the food/menus. We ate very well on this trip (as always!) Also thanks to the leaders and all who transported. Campout with Troop 217: We will be doing a campout in Johnstown with Troop 217. This will probably go down as the “Cheese and Quackers” campout. This is just for fun and fellowship with our friends from Troop 217. Permission slip attached and more details to come. Laurel Highlands Trek: Mitchell Walker and his father, Eric, participated in the Laurel Highlands Trek backpacking trip in June. The Walkers reported that this was good experience and there was some talk of taking on the Enduro for next year. If you have any interest in taking part in this trip in the future, Mitchell and Eric can give you some good information. I would encourage more participation in this event. Scout Pants: We have some new scout pants for sale. There are 4 pairs of size 14 - 27”waist, 1 pair of size 10 – 25” waist, 1 pair of size 20 – 30” waist and 1 pair of size 22 – 31” waist. Please bring these items to the scout room – there will be a collection box set up for them. We appreciate your help! Rickett’s Glenn Campout: On July 17th – 19th , the troop will be doing a campout at Rickett’s Glenn State Park . The park is located in North Eastern PA and has some of the most magnificent scenery in the state and is well known for the numerous waterfalls located there. This promises to be a memorable campout as we will be doing some day packing, swimming and some sightseeing. We are looking for help with transportation and leadership for this event. There will be a permission slip and more details emailed out and will also available at the next meeting. Please see Dave Smith or Rob Snyder if you have any questions regarding the trip or accommodations in the area. Congratulations! : - Steve Wolfe was presented the Indiana County Distinguished Citizen Award by Penn’s Woods Council at the William Penn Luncheon. - Don Shick was the recipient of the District Award of Merit along with his Scouter’s Key and 15 year pin at the recent Chestnut Ridge District Dinner. Other leaders from Troop 29 receiving awards were: Ivan and Justin Querry – 20 year awards, Joe Rougeux – 15 year award and Katy Querry – 10 year award. Here’s to their dedication and congratulations to all! Donations Needed: Brian Stancombe, an Eagle Scout and former ASM with Troop 29, is serving his 3rd tour of duty in Iraq. In his spare time, he enjoys working with the Iraqi children and helps organize soccer games. He could use donations of small bags of hard candy, individual serving containers of Pringles, Slim Jims and hand wipes. If you can help out with some donations, the troop will see the items are shipped to him. We will be collecting items during the month of June. Please help if you can!
