August 15, 2004

You and your family are invited to join Pack 29 for a picnic to be held at the Shelocta Sportsmen Club on Saturday, August 21 at 6:00 pm. Hotdogs, buns and bug juice will be provided. Families are asked to bring their own table service as well as a covered dish to share. In order to ensure a variety of food is available we are asking you bring the following dish based on your last name.

Last name begins with

    A - K - casseroles

    L - Q - salads/vegetables

    R - Z - desserts.

I apologize for the late notice, but it has been a very busy month.

This is an opportunity for the Pack to join together and get to know each other. Popcorn fundraiser information will be discussed as well as back to school recruiting. The event will take place rain or shine in the small pavilion by the pond. Please RSVP to Joe Rougeux at 724-357-9766 by Aug 18th so we can make sure enough food is available.

June 2004

Tonight's Pack Meeting marks the end of the regular meeting season. The next scheduled event is Day Camp which will take place on June 9 - 11 at the Red Barn Sportsman's Club. Laura Rhodes is the point of contact for this event.

I am planning a Pack outing for July and August. I will mail you the information as soon as the details are finalized.

Weekly Den meetings will resume on September 9, 2004. Dens are encouraged to have their own summer activities.

I will be back in September to help with recruiting but will not be the Cubmaster nor a Den Leader. The Pack is doing fine and can function without me. We still have openings for Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster. Please contact me if you are interested.

I have really enjoyed working with the Pack the last couple of years. The boys are having fun and many of the parents are finding out (as I have) that Scouting can be fun for adults as well. But it is now time for me to move on. I hope you all continue all the way through the Cub Scout program and I look forward to seeing you again in Boy Scouts.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call.

Hope to see you all in September!

Anyone who only made a deposit for Day Camp or Resident Camp has until May 1 to send their final payment into Council.

Anyone who is willing to accept the challenge of replacing me as Cubmaster is asked to contact me as soon as possible so we can begin a transition. I will remain with the Pack until recruiting is completed in September 2004. The Pack is healthy again and ready for hand-off.

April is Scouting's Youth Protection month. I will conduct youth protection training for boys and adults at our April Pack Meeting. The video It Happened to Me (26 min) will be shown followed by a brief question and answer period. This award-winning video was produced by the Boy Scouts of America to educate Cub Scout-age boys about child sexual abuse and the steps boys should take to protect themselves from being sexually abused. Experts who have reviewed it found it suitable for viewing by children as young as 6 years old.

All parents are encouraged to watch this video with their son. Your viewing of this video will help to provide a common point of reference for subsequent conversations you and your son might have on this topic.

Anyone who is willing to accept the challenge of replacing me as Cubmaster is asked to contact me as soon as possible so we can begin a transition.

Dec 25   Christmas Holiday - No Meeting

I would like to thank all of the Cub Scouts and parents who showed up to march in the Veteran's day parade. As a veteran myself, I can say veterans really do appreciate it when the public recognizes the sacrifices members of the Armed Forces have made to keep our country, The United States of America, free. Thanks for caring!

Parents/guardians are asked to spend a little time each week helping the boys to work on their achievements in their books. We are not able to complete all of the requirements in a single hour each week. When the Cub Scout has completed a requirement, please place your initials and date on the space provided in the Cub Scout book. The Den leader will then initial and record the completed requirements on a chart in the Scout Room at the next Den meeting. Thanks for your help.

Popcorn sale went well with $143 going into individual scout accounts and $384.75 going into the Pack account. This money will be used to pay for the Pinewood Derby.

I am planning on having a pinewood derby how to session for any interested adults. I will show you some of the tricks of the trade and give pointers for how to get the most performance out of the cars. This will help to level the racing field and give all of the boys an even chance. More info on date and time to come.

The Pack is doing well and word is getting out and we are continuing to grow. Thanks to all of you who have helped out with meetings over the past month. I hope you are having as much fun as I am. Please continue to show up and help at Den meetings. If there is an activity that you would like to help with, please just let me or the Den Leaders know and we will help you do it. Thanks Again!

The Pack has had a very successful recruiting drive this fall. We have a total of 26 boys registered. Several parents have stepped forward and volunteered their time and talents to serve as Den Leaders. We are still in need of Webelos Den Leaders. Don Shick is serving as a temporary Den Leader but will only be with us until February when his stepson Travis bridges into Boy Scouts. If anyone willing to help, please see the Cubmaster.

Parents are urged to attend den meetings and lend a hand where possible, just because you are not a registered leader, doesn't mean that you can't help out. Don't wait for someone to ask for help, if you see something that needs done and you are able to help, go for it!

Parents and families are invited and urged to attend the Pack meetings every month. This is our opportunity to recognize the work that the boys have done over the past month and to present awards. It is also a time for skits, songs, cheers and guest speakers/presenters. This month awards are pretty thin as the boys are just getting started on their new ranks but we should make up for it next month.

Thanks to all who have helped out this past month.
